Overall, this is a very nice hotel with good food and friendly staff. Plenty of grab rails are placed around the accessible bathroom. This bathroom also includes two sinks with accompanying mirrors - one at a standard height and one low level. Unfortunately, both shower controls are placed high on the wall and are out of reach when requiring the use of a shower chair. The accessible bathroom consists of a wheel-in shower, two shower controls and shower heads, one fixed and one removable. Table and chairs are blocking access to opening and closing curtains. The accessible bedroom is situated close to the lift and consists of twin beds, a desk with reachable sockets, and mirror at a correct height. However, I found the breakfast buffet is out of reach for wheelchair users to avail of independently. ![]() We enjoyed our breakfast and evening meal in Maddens Restaurant. Paid parking is available towards the back of this 3-star hotel, which includes accessible parking bays. Have the French toast for breakfast…it’s to die for!…Ĭlew Bay Hotel is centrally located in Westport town, providing an ideal base for visiting Croagh Patrick and surrounding attractions. It truly was as advertised and we were so happy he recommended it! We ended up staying in Westport an extra day…had more great conversations with Darren and will be sure to return if we ever head back to Ireland again…but for any of you headed that way…stay at The Clew Bay…you won’t be sorry!!! P.S. We decided to take his advice and headed out that way the next day after cancelling our other reservation. He suggested we take a trip out to Dun Briste to see the sea stack instead because it was pretty spectacular. ![]() He asked about our travel plans and we stated we were headed North next to Donegal. Darren lightly made a joke of knowing we were tourists due to that faux paw! It became a standing joke as we got to know Darren that evening. I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc and my hubby ordered a Smithwicks and pronounced it as such. She said to just let them do it for us because it wouldn’t cost much and it would be easier on us…what a sweetheart! They had it ready later that afternoon which was phenomenal! After settling in our room we went down to check out the on premise bar Maddens appropriately named after the owner Darren Madden who happened to also be behind the bar. This is a superior owner run hotel and everything from the moment we walked in the front door was perfect! There’s even a car park right next door and use of the aquatic facility next door! First off we needed to get laundry done and asked the lovely lady at the front desk where there might be a coin op. There aren’t enough stars to give this place.
